Feel the Great Nature
Horseback riding enables you to observe things from a different viewpoint. There are many horseback riding facilities along the Garden Path. They have various kinds of horses such as thoroughbreds, and quarter horses, which are used for western riding, but the recommended kind is dosanko, Hokkaido's special breed of horses.
Another recommended leisure sport is rafting. Many people ride on a rubber boat and go whitewater rafting. Along the Garden Path, you can enjoy rafting in the Sorachi and the Tokachi Rivers.
Appreciate the History and Art of Hokkaido
Many artists have lived and created works in the beautiful scenery along the Garden Path. In Asahikawa, there are the Hokkaido Folk Arts and Crafts Village, and the Ayako Miura Literature Museum. Biei has Takushinkan, the photo gallery of the photographer Shinzo Maeda. In Furano, the Furano Theater Factory has impressed many people. The Goto Sumio Museum of Art, which displays Sumio Goto's Japanese paintings, is also located here. The Obihiro Centennial City Museum, which introduces the history of Tokachi, is very popular among the local people.
Experience Hokkaido's Farming
Along the Garden Path, there are many facilities that offer opportunities to experience farming including milking cows, petting goats and sheep, making butter, digging potatoes and picking strawberries and haskap. You can learn the importance of life and food, which is difficult to learn in one's day to day life. This type of experience is another one of the great things the areas along the Path provide. Facilities where you can plant trees for environmental preservation are also popular.
